Police mentioned they were contacted by a individual who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.

An important official stated the attack left him without words and had to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
